This is a current tactic that I personally used to get a few of my clients, network, and meet quality leads who have been able to point me in the right direction to more sales. So I can guarantee this method will give you an advantage over your competitors (until consumers become wary of this as well).
Things to first consider:
Do I have my Instagram settings set as Public Business Profile? A public Instagram account set up as a business automatically becomes more trusted to the user who views your profile. In this age of Social Media, trust is everything. So first things first; let’s help your target audience to trust you more by switching to an Instagram Business Account and becoming transparent to users. A benefit of this is also the ability to read your account analytics and seeing what posts are working, what’s driving your audience to your website, and where you are losing your audiences attention.
Is my Website linked to my Account? Is it up to date? I’ll tell you right now that having a good mobile friendly landing page is extremely essential when being linked to your account. A bad homepage can have your user leaving within 3 seconds. So it’s good to ensure you have a well designed landing page. (Want a Free Website Audit for your Website? We can help.)
Is my accounts content up to quality standards? More often than not, businesses assume that a healthy account means posting random content that they find on the web, regardless of it’s image quality (I’ve seen some really, really poor image quality accounts in my time). You know. Blurry images. Pixelated so badly you can’t even see what you’re supposed to be looking at. Yuck. It’s never a bad thing to completely start over and delete all the images on your account and give yourself a digital facelift! (Want help with that? Save some time and let us do it.)
Alright! Time to get into the good stuff..
Let’s Generate Leads on Instagram for FREE!
The first thing you need to do is research! Research. Research. More research! Find out where your customers are going, who they’re following, and what they’re engaging with. You can do this by searching up local hashtags if you’re unsure what account usernames your competitors are using. For example; search #WinnipegSalon for posts by Salons in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Then look and see what type of content they’re posting. Are they getting lots of engagement? If so, let’s look at the users who like and comment on their posts. Let’s look at their followers. That is your immediate target audience on Social Media. YOU WANT THOSE USERS! So once you’ve clicked the “Likes” on their photos and looked through their followers, I’m assuming your copying and pasting these names onto a notepad by now, right? Good. Let’s continue.
Now it’s time to engage with your list! Start the following process. Instagram has a very secretive hourly and daily follow limit that they continuously change, so to be safe, I’d recommend a maximum of 75 per hour, and 500 per day. Make sure you Like 2 of their photos when you follow them. Maybe comment on one. This is engagement and this is what will generate curiosity in the user to view your account, see what it’s about, and either engage or give you a follow back. This is the beginning of your sales funnel that you are now placing this user through. You’ve generated curiosity, interest in your products or service, and awareness that your business exists. This is a good start! So now what? Well at 500 follows & 1,000 likes per day. Assuming that 10% of these users follow back, you should be able to build an account of 1,500 new followers EACH MONTH! These are 1,500 new followers that you haven’t had before. All by putting in a little time into research and engagement. That’s great. Give yourself a pat on the back for this one.
Now that we’ve got their attention. Let’s begin posting content and continuing these users down a sales funnel. You can do this by posting photos of common problems and your business’s solutions to those problem. Maybe you have helpful marketing tips, great before and after photos of a renovated bathroom, or exercises you can do from the comfort of your own home. Whatever the case, your followers have begun their engagement, let’s give them something more to engage with. So as we continue to build these followers and run them through a sales funnel, let’s push some problem awareness onto them and give them solutions, solidifying your position as an authority in your industry. The best way to do this is to create a Content Calendar and build a private fake account that you can use to test your photo layout/theme on before taking it to your business profile. Need some good FREE content to post? Head over to www.unsplash.com and download some of their completely free, high-quality, trendy photos to use for your content campaign.
Now we start to give them a nudge in the right direction. The users that have been engaging with your problem and solution awareness posts, let’s begin with Instagram Direct Messaging them an offer. That can be a % off their first purchase of your service, a referral message letting them know if they refer x amount of friends they’ll qualify for x refund for free, or a trial of your product or service. Something that will really capture their attention without them having to commit that very moment. Maybe you can provide a Free E-Book that you’ve got and requires the user to submit their email to get the download. Whatever it may be, slide in their inbox, be as professional as possible, yet try not to sound like a robot. Remember that these are people reading your message. Something like this would work…
“Hey Brian, thanks for the follow! We are taking 25% off your first purchase for the month of May and 50% off any purchases made on your birthday week. You can view our products at www.examplesite.com or ask me any questions directly.”
a) a new lead, who has gone to your website, and possibly submitted an email address to you to further funnel
b) a new client who is interested in purchasing right off the bat
c) an organic brand ambassador who is going to promote your product to their network to earn themselves some free or discounted products from you
d) word of mouth – who will talk about your company, products, or efforts to their network
All of these are good outcomes for you. This is FREE marketing. Time consuming, yes. But if you have the free time or want to get your employees on it, this is a guideline you can get your business account on and start increasing sales through your Instagram.
